Half of the Soul

Teatre de Manacor. Sala Major, Avinguda del Parc / carrer d'en Jordi d'es Racó, 07500 Manacor, Balearic Islands

On Saint George’s Day, while an author is signing books alongside writers such as Cabré and Monzó, a stranger gives her a folder containing a series of love letters exchanged by her mother with an unidentified lover during the 1950s. From that moment on, the protagonist begins to investigate the past of her mother, Cecília Balaguer, who died mysteriously in 1960 on her way to Paris, and the true identity of her biological father.

Who is Cecília Balaguer, apart from being the daughter of Pere Balaguer, a former member of the Generalitat parliament during the Republic? A double agent? A spy for the regime? And, on the other hand, who is the author’s father: the man she has always believed was her father, or one of her mother’s lovers? How did her mother die? Suicide, accident or murder? What does the writer Albert Camus have to do with this whole story? And Walter Benjamin? An enigma, a mystery, a fruitless investigation? Fiction or reality?
