Kintsugi + Alex Abril + Benjamín Aedo

Teatre Municipal Xesc Forteza

5:30 pm Kintsugi

Kintsugi is music made of shrapnel.

It explores the possibilities of error and unpredictability.

Its aim is to create a sonic result that has more meaning than the fragments that make it up.

Kintsugi is an improvised music project created by saxophonist João Mortágua and pianist Luís Figueiredo. It is based on the Japanese concept of kintsugi, which refers both to a technique of repairing ceramics with gold and to a philosophical stance: an attitude of accepting and embracing error and the unpredictability of life. The group released its debut album in 2021 on the Roda Music label and is currently working on its second record, now as a trio with the addition of guitarist Pedro Branco.

6:15 pm Alex Abril

Alex Abril is a duo formed by Abril Saurí (drums) and Alex Duato (piano). Their approach combines modernity and tradition within fusion jazz, with great rhythmic complexity and melodic sensitivity. In just one year, they have established themselves as one of the most promising acts in contemporary jazz, building a strong community on social media that has enabled them to connect with audiences in different parts of the world. With the release of their first EP, they embark on their first tour of Spain, Europe and Asia.

7 pm Benjamín Aedo

The Chilean composer and guitarist presents his new trio format with acclaimed musicians Max Villavecchia (Los Aurora) and Marcelo Woloski (Snarky Pupppy, Quiet Colors).

After releasing and presenting his debut album, Amigos de un río plateado (Mescalina, 2025), at various venues, including the final of the Jazz in the Park Competition in Romania, Benjamín takes a new direction and reduces his project to a trio in order to continue exploring South American instrumental music and contemporary jazz, focusing on rhythmic and timbral experimentation.

In this new repertoire, the guitarist and composer reveals influences from Mario Laginha, Egbert Gismonti, Aca Seca Trio, Pat Metheny, Carlos Aguirre and other leading figures in original instrumental music.
