Delphine de Vigan’s successful novel comes to the stage to remind us of the importance of the “little things”.

The gratitudes we express, those left unspoken, the painful ones, the daring ones, the habitual ones: they all hover over us and shape our universe. This is beautifully reflected in this apparently small story, which once again opens a space for reflection on those “little things” that ultimately matter so much. Perhaps that is why this text clings to us as if branded into our hands, carrying us away with its beauty, nostalgia, sadness, humour and, above all, its love.

Marie and Jérôme are connected by their relationship with Michka Seld, an elderly woman whose final months of life are recounted by these two interwoven voices. Marie is her neighbour: when she was a child and her mother was away, Michka looked after her. Jérôme is the speech therapist trying to help the elderly woman, who has just been admitted to a nursing home, recover at least part of the speech she is losing because of aphasia. Both characters become involved in Michka’s final wish: to find the couple who, during the years of the German occupation, saved her from dying in an extermination camp by taking her in and hiding her in their home. She never thanked them, and now she would like to show them her gratitude...
