ME_MMIX presents the world premiere of the complete version of Entre Feldman, a project by Niño de Elche and Héctor Cavallaro that, until now, had only been heard in preview form: a first, twenty-five-minute section presented at the Resis festival, first in A Coruña and later in Madrid. In Mallorca, the complete piece, lasting fifty minutes, will be performed for the first time.
The year 2026 marks the centenary of the birth of Morton Feldman (1926–1987), a highly singular twentieth-century composer whose work redefines the concept of time in music. Feldman is known for his static pieces of extreme duration, in which sounds are projected onto “canvases of time” and break with conventional narrative structures. His music, which seems to float in a state of contemplation, invites us to experience the spirituality of sound in an almost plastic, physical way, often giving sonic form to the paintings of Mark Rothko, Philip Guston and Jackson Pollock.
In this context, and drawing on Feldman’s writings collected in the Spanish edition Pensamientos verticales (Caja Negra, 2012), the collaboration between Niño de Elche and Héctor Cavallaro was born from the need to explore the possibilities arising from his work and the impact of his thinking on existence and art. Entre Feldman creates a space in which to live and share this Feldmanian experience, transforming his writings and compositions into a meditative, humanist and spiritual experience. The artistic voices of Rembrandt, Caravaggio, Pissarro, Cézanne and Picasso will resonate within it, alongside newly created music and the legacy of Schubert, Webern and Stravinsky.
Niño de Elche’s reinterpretation of Feldman’s thought will be unrepeatable and celebrates the spirit of ME_MMIX’s programme.
The project is made possible by the curatorial and production work of ME_MMIX, a cultural and community platform. The festival has undertaken the deployment required by the work: the musical direction of Christian Karlsen and an ensemble of thirteen musicians from the Balearic Islands Symphony Orchestra.
ME_MMIX would like to express its special thanks for the support received from Cristina MartĂnez, manager of the FundaciĂł Orquestra Simfònica Illes Balears; Llorenç PerellĂł, Director General of Culture of the Government of the Balearic Islands; and Pedro Vidal, Regional Secretary for Culture and Sport of the Government of the Balearic Islands. Without their trust and support, the participation of the OSIB in the premiere of Entre Feldman in Mallorca would not have been possible.
The concert will be recorded in audiovisual format.
