ME_MMIX Festival cine-concert — Olga Neuwirth and Ensemble Phace conducted by Nacho de Paz

Teatre Principal — Sala Gran, Carrer de la Riera, 2, 07003 Palma, Balearic Islands

One of Spain’s most prestigious conductors provides the music for Hans Karl Breslauer’s silent film.

Olga Neuwirth, Ensemble Phace and Nacho de Paz perform the soundtrack live, without exception, for an iconic film of Austrian Expressionism set in the Republic of Utopia, The City Without Jews. As a severe economic crisis grips the country, the Jews are singled out as the sole culprits for the grave situation affecting its citizens; consequently, their expulsion is decided. Among those rejected is Leo Strakosch, fiancé of government councillor Linder’s daughter, who will secretly enter the Republic to show society the error of the mass expulsion and denounce the antisemitic prejudices that are taking hold.
