Rivoli Aficine
In Ultrashow, I explain around 20 or 30 ideas or mental images, one after another, without worrying too much about the order. It lasts approximately one hour and twenty minutes, and I am alone on stage. I select the ideas I use in the show from the notes and drawings I produce every day. It is a comedy show, although the ideas themselves do not necessarily have to be funny. To develop certain ideas, I use images projected onto a screen (my own drawings, images found on the Internet and photographs taken with my mobile phone). The tone of the discourse can be vehement (like that of a televangelist or a totalitarian leader) and sometimes becomes colloquial and irreverent. Although I have the titles of the ideas I want to communicate written down on a piece of paper, and explain some of them repeatedly over several months, Ultrashow is a monologue with improvised passages and unexpected digressions, somewhere between a lecture and a theatrical piece. Ultrashow begins with an improvised opening song lasting between five and eight minutes, whose content and incidents I comment on immediately after singing it. The song and its commentary are followed by what I call the visual introduction, which consists of commentary on a series of slides linked by a general idea (the opening song, the commentary on the song and the visual introduction usually last approximately half an hour). The explanation of the ideas then begins, interrupted by a second slide presentation, this time consisting mainly of unrelated drawings. The show concludes with the reading of a self-referential farewell text occupying one side of a sheet of paper.
Recommended for audiences over 16.
