Faust — By Charles Gounod, opening the 41st Opera Season

Teatre Principal — Sala Gran, Carrer de la Riera, 2, 07003 Palma, Balearic Islands

A great operatic title performed in its original version, featuring costumes designed by Christian Lacroix.

Charles Gounod’s Faust will open the Teatre Principal’s 41st Opera Season. Gounod worked with Jules Barbier and Michel Carré as librettists, adapting a play of their own which, in turn, was inspired by Goethe’s work. It premiered on 19 March 1859 at the Théâtre Lyrique in Paris.

It tells the story of the old scholar Faust, willing to make a pact with the devil to regain knowledge, youth and earthly power.

A production by Opéra de Lille in co-production with Opéra-Comique (Paris) and Palazzetto Bru Zane – Centre de musique romantique française (Venice)
