Extraordinary Santa Cecilia Concert — Santanyí Municipal Music Band

A tribute to Mallorca’s identity, heritage and memory through symphonic music, narration, poetry and audiovisual projection.

The show Les nostres arrels is an artistic project by the Santanyí Municipal Music Band, consisting of two closely linked works by Mallorcan composer Joan Martorell i Adrover. The first, Mallorca. Un viatge a l’interior, is a symphonic work premiered in 2006 for Mallorca Day and adapted by the composer himself for wind band at the request of the Santanyí Municipal Music Band. The second, Santanyí: paisatge de memòria, is a newly created composition written expressly as a tribute to the municipality and its band.

Audiences will experience something that goes beyond a conventional concert. Music engages in dialogue with narration and poetry to offer an emotional journey through Mallorca’s landscapes, history and culture.

Performed by an ensemble with more than 170 years of history, the project symbolises the continuity between tradition and contemporary creation, and highlights the Santanyí Municipal Music Band as one of the most representative cultural institutions in the Balearic Islands.
