OR THE YOGA OF JESUS
The Second Coming of Christ or The Yoga of Jesus is based on Yogananda’s work of the same title, as well as on fragments of another show that we presented at the Teatro María Guerrero more than fifteen years ago, about the Gospel of Saint John. Yogananda’s title does not refer to a literal, physical return of Jesus to Earth, as countless prophecies supported by different interpretations of biblical quotations on this subject maintain, but rather to an inner experience of that same consciousness manifested by the historical figure Jesus of Nazareth when he was in the world. Yogananda maintains that through defined techniques and scientific methods of meditation, we can access that supreme level of consciousness through the channel of our own perception and our own consciousness. Based on this idea, he produced an interpretation of the Christian Gospels from the perspective of the spiritual wisdom of the ancient yogis of India. An original version of the genuine teachings of Jesus Christ, showing their essential identity with the Vedic tradition and the ancient knowledge of the science of Yoga. My work here has consisted of presenting the teaching of mystical yoga shown by Yogananda, following some episodes from the life and miracles of Jesus according to the Gospels, specifically the Gospel of Saint John.
The style is once again indebted to the theatrical work of the great master Darío Fo, combining humour, gesture, sound, silence and the spoken word like the ancient medieval minstrels. Darío Fo had already done this in the agnostic gospels in his work “Mistero Buffo”. I now create a version of the “same mystery”, around which revolve the great questions that theatrical art has always echoed. The old and sacred art of theatre! It is a happy coincidence to premiere this show at SOHO in Málaga, where we have already performed shows in the same style on two occasions. This one is highly complex and represents a more daring undertaking, combining the desire for a profound knowledge of the soul with the rhythm, laughter and playful spirit of the theatre’s celebration.
I hope that the audience’s warmth and the light of the Mediterranean in Málaga will be the radiant auspices of this undertaking and bless us in our effort. Thank you.
