A musical about memory, identity and the need to resist
What happens when the future seems to have lost all hope? A Shelter in the Sun creates a dialogue between two apparently distant generations: young people trying to find their place in a world marked by polarisation, violence and uncertainty, and those who still preserve the memory of the struggle against fascism. A contemporary musical that reflects on identity, family ties and the need not to forget the past in order to imagine a future.
Kai and Ària are a musical duo about to take a decisive step in their career. But a traumatic episode drives Kai to seek refuge in the family home in Pallars, where reuniting with their godmother, Dolors, will open up a journey through memory, popular legends and memories of the Spanish Civil War. From this encounter, the production unfolds a story combining theatre, live music and rural imagery to speak about fragility, difference and the construction of an identity of one’s own.
With dramaturgy by Jumon Erra and Pol Sanuy, and original music by Mireia Morera, A Shelter in the Sun confirms the distinctive stage identity of Cia. Gèminis, a company that has succeeded in creating its own vibrant, contemporary theatrical language. Its creations engage with new generations, while addressing themes that concern us all: family, memory, identity and the need to find a place in the world.
